UN Reaffirm Support


The United Nations Resident Coordinator Mr. Sanaka Samarasinha paid a courtesy call to the Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu this morning reiterating the UN's support through its various agencies in Fiji.

Mr. Samarasinha reaffirmed UN's commitment through agencies such as the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund [UNICEF], United Nations Development Program [UNDP] United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime [UNODC], and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees [UNHCR].

Mr. Samarasinha said the UN is committed to supporting the organization in terms of training and resourcing of officers including the strengthening of policing programs.

The Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu thanked Mr Samarasinha for the visit and acknowledged the support rendered towards the institution as it has greatly benefitted Policing efforts both locally and internationally.

It was also revealed that the UNODC plans to develop and fund a curriculum for Training in Contact Tracing Methods and Related Operations for Pacific Police jurisdictions, which can be customised to fit country COVID 19 policing specific needs.

The curriculum will contain specific topics including contact tracing capacity for quick identification, Developing clear command and control lines of communication for contact tracing operations and Prevent infection in Police precincts and barracks.

This Training of Trainers concept will be virtually delivered later this year.
