In closing the one week Western Division Tribunal Officers Workshop on Friday 27th June 2025, the Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (A/ACP) Internal Affairs and Professional Standards Viliame Sovalevu emphasized the need for senior officers to effectively discharge their duties in a bid to enhance the credibility of the organisation’s disciplinary system.
The workshop was designed to empower senior officers when assigned the role of tribunal officer to effectively adjudicate disciplinary matters focusing on procedural fairness, case management, legal compliance and professional integrity in tribunal proceedings. A/ACP Sovalevu said, “Tribunal Officers play a vital role as custodians of internal discipline.
Your responsibility is fundamental to the credibility of our disciplinary system and, ultimately, to the public trust". He went on to stress, “This workshop has not been an academic exercise. It is a call to action.
As we navigate through the UPLIFT Reform Program—anchored on five strategic pillars, including ethical leadership and professional accountability—the contribution of well-informed, confident, and committed tribunal officers becomes even more critical.
If we are to restore public trust, we must first prove that we are capable of holding ourselves accountable.’ The Australian Federal Police supported UPLIFT Reform aims to drive meaningful reforms within the Fiji Police Force, with the overall intent of restoring public trust and confidence in the policing profession.
