Election Security Advisory Group establishes partnership


JOINT PRESS RELEASE Election Security Advisory Group Signs Terms of Reference The Election Security Advisory Group (ESAG) today, Wednesday 10 September 2025, marked a significant milestone with the official signing of its Terms of Reference (ToR), formalising the framework for enhanced coordination and collaboration among Fiji’s key security and electoral institutions.

This signing emphasizes the shared commitment of all parties to safeguard the integrity, security, and smooth conduct of electoral processes in Fiji.

The ESAG provides a coordinated platform to address security challenges, mitigate risks, and ensure public confidence in the electoral system.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Supervisor of Elections Ms Ana Mataiciwa emphasised the importance of strong inter-agency partnerships.

“The signing of the ToR is more than a formality; it is a collective pledge to the people of Fiji that their elections will be conducted in a secure and trustworthy environment.

Through ESAG, we strengthen our cooperation and readiness to ensure free, fair, and credible elections,” said Ms Mataiciwa. The Commander RFMF Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu, and Manager Investigations FICAC Mr.

Mosese Matanisiga echoed the importance of the initiative, highlighting that the ESAG will serve as a central mechanism for operational preparedness, information sharing, and joint responses to electoral security matters.

The Fijian Elections Office (FEO), as Secretariat to the ESAG, will continue to facilitate meetings, provide technical support, and coordinate activities in line with the ToR.

The ESAG is a critical pillar in ensuring that the voices of Fijians are protected through a safe and secure electoral environment.

The ToR was signed by the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, the Commissioner of Police, the Manager Investigations of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) on behalf of the Acting Commissioner of FICAC, and the Supervisor of Elections.
