MOU SIGNING


A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today between the Fiji Police Force and the Ministry of Fisheries regarding the use of the Ministry’s premises at Draunibota, Lami.

The Fiji Police’s maritime capabilities is currently being kept at Draunibota and is also the main base for the WATERPOL Division.

The signing of the MOU gives the Fiji Police access and use of the premises for the sole purpose of border policing.

The Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said the signing was timely considering the institutional intent of improving service delivery in all areas of policing and WATERPOL has a major role to play in the monitoring of Fiji’s maritime borders and serving the maritime islands.

He added that the signing will enable the institution to carry out necessary infrastructural changes to the property in a bid to secure maritime capabilities.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries Mr Pene Baleinabuli says discussions have been ongoing for a number of years and they were happy to finally get the signing formalized noting the importance of maritime policing.
