be alert of your surroundings

Mobile phones and electronic gadgets  are being targeted by opportunists, prompting another call for members of the public to be alert to their surroundings.

Theft is most commonly referred to as a crime of opportunity - and prevention is key to lowering your risk of becoming a victim.

Based on trends, mobile phones and electronic gadgets that are often unattended or improperly secured, or visible inside vehicles  are targeted, as opportunists know that they can easily be disposed off by means of a quick sale, in return for a quick buck.

A simple security message used the world over that we hope everyone will adopt is - Stop, Think & Secure.

This not only applies to your personal belongings such as mobile phones, bags, wallets, purses and valuable items, but your cars, homes and properties.

A number of property crimes were as a result of homes and cars left unsecured, even for a short period of time.

Community involvement is crucial in crime prevention efforts that can help reduce all forms of property crime.

Do not engage in the buying of properties suspected to be stolen, and an easy way to identify these items if they are being sold at an unbelievably cheap price, way below normal price.

Together we can reduce opportunistic crimes, by being alert, vigilant and security minded at all times.
