The Fiji Police Force concluded its Senior Officers Seminar at the Novotel Hotel in Lami with the intent of providing the progress of the Australian Federal Police supported FPF Uplift program and associated projects.
The seminar was also an opportunity to discuss the proposed Fiji Police Force Strategic Plan from 2025 to 2029.
The Minister for Policing, Honorable Ioane Naivalurua, while opening the one day seminar, reminded the officers of their role in shaping Fiji’s security landscape.
“We live in a time of extraordinary change. From cyber threats, including new AI-generated and transnational crimes, to community safety, climate-driven security risks, and technological disruptions, our nation faces a dynamic and evolving landscape,” said Mr Naivalurua.
He said traditional policing alone could not keep pace with the changing needs of society, adding communities expect and deserve more, and the Fiji Police Force must lead the change and not follow it.
“This retreat comes at a defining time in our nation’s journey, a time when your role, your leadership, and your credibility are being put to the test. In such a landscape, law enforcement is not just a job - it is a national pillar.”
The Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, thanked everyone for their attendance.
“Nobody can come from outside to take this organisation forward. We are here as a team to do that, and the Uplift will assist us in taking this organisation forward."
He reminded the participants of the Minister of Policing’s intent and the need for everyone to work together.
Presentations were also delivered by the Permanent Secretary of Policing Mr Beranado Kolinio Daveta and by the Principal Project Officer for the Police Act Review team, under the Ministry of Policing, Mr Biu Matavou.
