Pacific Islands Emergency Management Alliance Workshop


A two week training course facilitated by the Pacific Islands Emergency Management Alliance (PIEMA) supported by Australia and New Zealand, with the Pacific Community - SPC and the Australia-Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) got underway at the Fiji Police Academy in Suva this morning.

The aim of the training of the trainers course is to bring together key emergency management agencies in a bid to improve coordination and create ‘excellence in emergency management.

The PIEMA training course is delivered across five countries including Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Samoa. Course participants include representatives from Police, Fiji Navy, National Fire Authority, National Disaster Management Office and APTC.

The Fiji Police Force is grateful to have also been given the nod to factor this training package to be delivered at the Fiji Police Academy as part of programs offered with the Pacific Center for Law Enforcement Cooperation under the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Policing umbrella.

PIEMA is already an active training partner under the Pacific Police Training Advisory Group (PPTAG) in the delivery of specific training on Disaster Management within PICP member countries.
