Thirty-two arrests were made for breach of curfew between 11pm last night to 4am this morning.

A significant increase when compared to the same period the previous day whereby eight reports were recorded.

Of the 32 arrests, 14 were recorded in the Southern Division, 11 in the Western Division, 3 in the Eastern and Central Divisions whereas the Northern Division recorded 1 case.

As anticipated, majority of the arrests made going into the weekend is linked to alcohol.

Twenty-two of the arrests were those found to be heavily intoxicated and moving around in public places.

The lone case recorded in the Northern Division involved a 26 year old market vendor who was found drunk in Labasa Town.

The cases in the Eastern Division were all linked to alcohol.

Two men were found drunk at the Rewa Bridge Roundabout while the third suspect was drunk and walking around in Nakasi.

In the Southern Division – 9 of the 14 cases involved those who were drunk during their time of arrest.

Whereas the Western Division, 10 of its 11 arrests were also related to alcohol.

We are pleading with members of the public to drink responsibly and avoid being caught out during curfew hours.
