18 people arrested this year in possession of illicit drugs


18 people have been arrested so far this year after been in possession of illicit drugs.

This includes two juvenile students who were arrested on New Year’s Day and a female who was arrested this morning.

On New Year's Day, a 17-year-old student was arrested around Lami Village after been found with a clear zip lock bag containing dried leaves and 5 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

A 16-year-old student from Nauluvatu was arrested after he was found in possession of 11 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

A 30-year-old baker of Wailea settlement was also arrested after he was found with 6 sachets and a 35-year-old farmer of Kilikoso, Labasa was found with 9 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

A 42 unemployed man of Qelewaqa Labasa was arrested at the Labasa market taxi stand after he was found with some dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

On the second day of this year, a 35-year-old farmer of Nakoba Village was found with 3 sachets and a 32-year-old laborer of Naodamu was found with 9 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

Both were arrested from the Labasa Market. 

A 40-year-old man from Qelewaqa was arrested at the Labasa Bus Stand after he was found with 11 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

A 40-year-old chef of Valebasoga, Labasa was also arrested on the second day of this year for carrying 4 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

On the third day while on Patrol, Police came across four young men along the Queens Road at Velovelo, Lautoka and arrested them for being in possession of 48 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

Yesterday, a 58-year-old man was arrested along Reservoir Road in Suva for being in possession of 8 sachets while a 26-year-old bulk boy was arrested in Kinoya for carrying 2 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

A 24-year-old man of Verata Street, Nausori was also arrested yesterday for being in possession of 2 clear zip lock plastic bag containing white crystals believed to be methamphetamine.

A 25-years-old man of Waqadra was arrested along Naisoso road yesterday for carrying 5 clear plastic containing white crystals believed to be methamphetamine.

Yesterday in Tukavesi, during a training exercise, a Police team came across containers containing 334 green plants believed to be marijuana ranging from 10 cm to 174 cm

This morning, a female was arrested along Nailuva for being in possession of 1 clear plastic containing white crystals believed to be methamphetamine.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu said drug arrest continues every day, and he acknowledge the support from stakeholders.

“We are receiving drug information from the Turaga ni Koros and leaders of certain groups who doesn’t want drugs to spoil their children's future. We will continue with the war against drugs, but we cannot do it alone. We need everyone’s support,” said ACP Driu.
