Newly inducted Fiji Police Narcotics Bureau officers were reminded of the need to remain ethically solid in a department globally deemed to be a vulnerable field of policing.
The warning was issued by the Director Narcotics Bureau, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fisi Nasario while welcoming the newly inducted officers to enhance the work of the Bureau.
“Ask any law enforcement agency, and they will tell you that the Narcotics Bureau is always a vulnerable department. This is experienced around the world of policing. However, the principles, values and ethics of the Fiji Police Force, remain the same. Nothing should ever change”.
SSP Nasario went on to say, “You will be tested as time goes on. The principles, values and ethics will be tested and I urge you to look at what you are tasked to do, who you are tasked to protect and why you were selected amongst the rest”.
At present, officers from the Narcotics Bureau are based in all five policing divisions, and while the challenges of resources remain, the Director Narcotis Bureau says the way forward is to leverage off partnerships and community support.
“More than 90 percent of the population are law abiding citizens who are also concerned and are willing to help. Most of our law-abiding citizens have been great in providing information that has led to successful illicit drug raids and busts”.
“The government and other institutions share the same concern and are also echoing their willingness to do something. Our foreign counterparts have been providing guidance, assistance and support. Note that we are pushing forward, tailor making our strategies because of our resources and capabilities but will at no time, give up. We are going to be aggressive and direct in our business and I urge you all to be steadfast, and do your best.
