Day 3 Gender Family Harm Program

Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Gender Family Harm (GFH) Programme Managers were today focused on putting life into the PICP GFH Strategic Direction 2021 -2024, vowing to make an impact through their work of addressing GFH and Gender Based Violence in the Pacific region.

The 3rd day of the PICP Gender and Family Harm regional workshop co-facilitated by the Pacific-Community-SPC held at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi, revolved around the drawing up of draft action plans towards progressing the PICP GFH Directions.

The sessions conducted by SPC Team Leader Governance and Institutional Strengthening, Neomai Maravuakula and SPC Team Leader Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Jose Antonio helped guide the 16 GFH Programme Managers draw up realistic and workable activities aimed at increasing knowledge and behavioural change towards GFH and GBV under the GFH Strategic Direction.

Ms Maravuakula said, “We need to be realistic and set activities that are achievable within let’s say a one year period, keeping in mind that activities should impact sustainable change”. “When drawing up your activities, ask, how does it help progress your ownership of the GFH Strategy. By conducting training with your officers, they are owning the work, and the ability to adequately address survivors and perpertrators. Thinking back, by doing these activities, am I bringing life to the GFH Strategic Direction for my country”.

SPC Team Leader Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Jose Antonio said, “Your activities and expected outcomes must be able to influence a change of behaviour, increase knowledge that can help in changing societal norms associated with GFH and GBV”.

The workshop continues at the Tanoa hotel and ends tomorrow.
