The Fiji Police Force is calling on all Taxi Drivers to consider their safety first before picking up passengers.
The call comes after a few incidents of Taxi Drivers being robbed and assaulted.
Its common knowledge that taxi Drivers usually carry cash which is often being targeted and we are calling on them to avoid carrying excessive amount of cash around.
Especially if a passenger is seated, do not flash money in front of them. Taxi Drivers should also reconsidered their destination especially during late hours in the night.
If Taxi Drivers feel uncomfortable with any of their passengers, they can always detour to the next Police Station or Community Post so that our Police Officers to talk with the said passenger.
The Fiji Police Force have taken few people to task for their involvement in the assaults and robbing of Taxi Drivers.
Police will continue to work with other stakeholders to ensure that Taxi Drivers continue to provide their services to members of the public in a safer environment.
