Women police officers in the Southern Division had a double celebration by commemorating the International Women’s Day

Women police officers in the Southern Division had a double celebration by commemorating the International Women’s Day and its theme #EmbraceEquity, and the Hindu Festival of Colors known as Holi, at the Southern Division Command Centre (SDCC) conference room this morning.

Hosted by women officers in the Southern Division Community Policing Unit, the invited guests for the event were the President of the Chinese Women Union (CWU) in Fiji, Mrs Wendy Fang, and the Divisional Police Commander Southern (DPC South) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pita Keni.

Also present at the event was the Director of Chinese Culture Centre in Fiji, Miss Xiaoyan Han and a delegation of Chinese women from the CWU and Chinese Embassy in Fiji. Members of the Southern Division Command Group were also part of the double celebrations.

DPC South SSP Keni said women officers make up 25 percent of the total number of officers serving in the Division and they should be celebrated for all the change and achievement they have made in the Fiji Police Force.

“It’s a time to celebrate the accomplishment of women, highlight their contribution to the Police Force,” SSP Keni said.

“On this auspicious day, lets celebrate International Women’s Day recognizing their commitment, support their work towards a brighter and more inclusive future,” he added.

Mrs Fang called on everyone to come together and work for the rights and interest of women.

“We need to promote an equal, just and inclusive social environment that fosters the equal participation and development of women,” Mrs Fang said.

“That is what today is all about, caring for women and creating a better Fijian Community. We need to respect the rights and dignity of women and eliminate discrimination and prejudice against them,” she added.
