The Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration begins police visitation


The Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Honourable Pio Tikoduadua has reiterated the importance of rebuilding confidence in the policing professon as there is a high demand for the “professional officer”.

The Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration official visitation to the Fiji Police Force began at the Police Headquarters this morning where Hon. Tikoduadua was accorded a quarter guard welcome, followed by an overview brief of the organisation’s functions in the presence of the Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew and members of the Command Group.

The Honourable Minister called on the Acting Commissioner and senior command to address the fundamental concerns by the public with regards to how police conducted their work, and to focus on changing public perception.

Hon. Tikoduadua said police have been perceived differently because of their behavior and attitude which has been entrenched within for a long time.

He called on the Command Group to conduct some soul searching and develop a clear pathway in changing public perception, stressing when dealt with properly, half of the battle of policing would be won when the community gains confidence and trust in the organization making the work of crime prevention an easier task.

The Hon. Minister is currently touring specialized Units and stations in the Central and Southern Divisions.
