Special visit to Officers Mess

When the cruise liner Majestic Princess berthed in Suva last week, it was a special stop over for one of the passengers on board.

Ms Serena Ann Howard, fondly known as Sereana, during her childhood days in Fiji, had an important task to complete during the short stop-over in Suva.

Ms Howard’s late father Superintendent of Police (SP) R.T. Brooks was the Fiji Police Academy Commandant in 1968 up until 1970 after which they returned to England.

For years, Ms Howard has yearned to return to Fiji and when the opportunity presented itself, she used the brief stop to visit the Officers Mess and hand over a framed photo of her late father.

Ms Howard shared her story with senior members of the Fiji Police during her visit to the Officer’s Mess, “I remember the Officers Mess really well, and used to sit outside on the steps, enjoying my lemonade with other Officer's children”.

She handed over a framed photo she kept of her late father taken during the visit of a senior official.

“So much has changed, but I still recall my childhood days in Nasova and will always cherish those days.
