Diwali Celebration

Diwali celebrations were held at the Fiji Police Headquarters with the head of the institution reminding officers that they had a major responsibility to shoulder as law enforcement officers in ensuring good triumphs over evil.

Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said the 2021 Diwali celebrations was an opportunity to also remember the lives of fallen officers who through their unwavering commitment and dedication to upholding the rule of law had lost their lives.

The head of the institution said as the 2021 HQ Diwali celebration also falls on the 21st year since the attempted mutiny at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks, it was a sombre reminder of how dangerous the policing profession could be as the institution also remembered the lives of the two Police officers who lost their lives during the 2000 upheaval.

Brigadier General Qiliho said policing embodies the spirit of Diwali in that officers are required to ensure people are protected and feel safe from harm.

He reminded them that policing is a religious calling and should never be taken lightly.
