Western Community Policing Symposium


Participants of the two-day Community Policing Symposium in the Western Division were reminded this morning that Crime Prevention is everyone’s responsibility.

The Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu while officiating at the opening of the symposium this morning urging everyone on the need to work together in fighting against crime.

“We need to work together and fight to keep our communities safe from criminal elements and for us to put up a united and stronger front-we need to hear each other whether it be our weaknesses or strengths, this is an open forum to learn from each other”.

While commended the support rendered by the Pacific Center for Peacebuilding towards the symposium also acknowledged everyone’s cooperation in accepting the invitation to be part of the Western Symposium.

The Head of the organization said he was glad to see the turnout and is reminding participants that policing cannot be successful without community participation and their contributions towards the betterment of this country is important.

He had also highlighted that the two Symposiums previously held in the Southern and Northern Division have greatly assisted the institution's efforts in charting the way forward in our Community Policing efforts.

The official opening was followed by the launch of the Duavata Manual and the Change of name from Crime Prevention Chairs to Community Coordinators.

The Acting Commissioner also had the opportunity to badge the respective Community Coordinators.

The conclusion of the official opening was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Fiji Police Force and the Pacific Centre for Peacebuilding.
