"LET'S work together"


"We need to work together in the fight against drugs for the betterment of Kadavu and its future generations.”

These were the words of encouragement by the Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu while officially opening the Kadavu Provincial Council meeting at Tavuki Village, Kadavu on Wednesday (24/03/21).

The Head of the Organization was invited by the Provincial Council in Kadavu in his capacity as the Acting Commissioner of Police and is the first time for any person holding that position to officiate such an event.

While challenging chiefs of Kadavu on their role in the war against drugs, he also highlighted that Police cannot work alone, and therefore their support is much needed.

He stressed that the onus on eliminating drugs from the land lies in the hands of its people.

The Acting Commissioner reminded everyone only a handful were involved in the illegal cultivation and trade in Kadavu but they were able to prosper because others chose not to say anything and turned a blind eye to the illegal activities.

He adds that key people in the community that is supposed to be a beacon of hope should speak up and put a stop to the worrying trend Kadavu is now being known for its illegal drug activities.

He added that twelve different teams have been deployed to Kadavu for the past year and they will continue to do so for as long as it takes to curb the illegal trade.

The Head of the Organization has reassured the people of Kadavu that Police Officers are there to do their work and if any officers do otherwise, he has encouraged them to report the matter.

He stressed that Police Officers are not allowed to assault anyone.

Tui Naceva, Ratu Jona Bainivalu while commended the Acting Commissioner seek support from other participants in the War against Drugs.

Ratu Jona said it seemed that the Fiji Police Force is alone in battling the war against drugs in Kadavu while most of its people-watch without offering any assistance.

He stressed that it is not the sole responsibility of the Police alone to wipe out drugs from their land and they need to take ownership of the current battle for the sake of their future generations.

The Acting Commissioner also advised members of the Kadavu Provincial Council to work hand in hand and build a better Kadavu for the benefit of its people.
