37 year old man charged for scam

The Fiji Police Cyber Task Force has charged a 37-year old man for allegedly dishonestly obtaining $260 in relation to a rental car scam.

The victim had sent the money to a bank account, details of which were provided by the accused via a text message from a mobile number listed on the rental car advertisement posted on Facebook.

The alleged incident occurred on the 19th day of July 2024.

Several attempts made by the victim to contact the accused on the number provided proved futile and a report was then lodged at the Namaka Police Station.

The accused has been charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage by deception and will be produced at the Suva Magistrates Court today.
