Independent review of the FPF

Elevating public trust and confidence in the Fiji Police Force is the cornerstone of the Australian Federal Police’s supported Uplift Independent External Review recommendations.

A draft of the findings was presented by Australian Federal Police Assistant Commissioner Nigel Ryan and consultant Mr Mike Bush to the Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu on Monday.

Discussions were held in identifying foundational matters to be addressed prior to the commencement of the Uplift programme aimed at securing improved public trust and confidence, the central aim of the initiative.

Also, in attendance during the two-day meeting in Nadi were AFP’s Senior Officer (Suva) Detective Superintendent Grant Liddy, and FPF’s Assistant Commissioner of Police Administration (ACP/A) Meli Sateki, Assistant Commissioner of Police Planning Research and Development (ACP/PRD) Aporosa Lutunauga and Director International Relations Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ulaiasi Ravula.

The independent review of the Fiji Police Force was conducted by the Uplift team whereby consultations were held with police officers and community stakeholders where findings backed the need for a comprehensive uplift centered on the restoration of public trust and confidence, with consensus reached on the programme to oversee transformative change within the organisation.

The Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu acknowledged the AFP’s support in the conduct of the review with the draft recommendation report once finalised, to assist the FPF map the way forward in building trust and confidence by way of stabilising various disciplines of policing for improved service delivery.

The AFP supported Uplift programme aims to drive meaningful reforms within the Fiji Police Force.
