parents and guardians to closely monitor young children

The Fiji Police Force is calling on parents and guardians to closely monitor young children to avoid accidents and the loss of life.

The reminder follows an incident whereby a 1-year old boy sustained more than 50% burns from a hot pot that was placed on the floor.

The incident occurred in a village in Navosa on the 9th of March 2025.

The child was rushed to the Navosa Hospital, and was later transferred to the Lautoka Aspen Hospital where he remains admitted.

Investigations will also look at the element of negligence.

We urge parents and guardians to be alert to potential safety threats in and around homes for the safety and well-being of young children.
