Cross report over alleged assault

Two separate investigations are being conducted into alleged cases of assault, lodged by 24 year old man and a police officer.

The cross reports were lodged following the alleged incident that occurred last night in Sigatoka town.

The first report was lodged by a police officer who was attending to a case of causing trouble, where he was allegedly assaulted by a group of youths in Sigatoka town.

A cross report was lodged by health officials after the 24 year old victim was brought to the hospital, claiming he was assaulted by the officer.

The Fiji Police Force's Internal Affairs Department is handling the investigations and is expected to submit their initial findings to the Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu soon.

Commissioner Tudravu is urging members of the public posting on social media to allow the process of investigation to take its course before passing judgment.

The Commissioner of Police said that while he understands emotions run high when allegations are made against police officers, the priority will always remain on ensuring justice through the conduct of a thorough investigation.
