Empathy being a key component of policing is the driving factor behind the Eastern Divisions' Community Policing 'Siro Sobu' concept.
The newly appointed Divisional Police Commander East (DPC/E) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Josua Vodo says the intent of Operation Siro Sobu is to appreciate and understand the challenges faced by communities in their area of operation.
Last Sunday, the Eastern Division Community Policing team launched the “Siro Sobu” concept in the Tikina of Nawaidina in Naitasiri, where the officers spent a week strengthening their community policing approach through the conduct of house to house visitations and people to people engagement in the ten villages and 6 schools within the Tikina.
SSP Vodo said Operation Siro Sobu is encompassed in Operation Veitalevi, where the intent is to bring services closer to members of the public who may have difficulties in reaching out to Police.
The one week of awareness saw officers from Nausori, Vunidawa and Naqali spend the week living in, and understanding the needs of their communities, and the house to house visitations gave them the opportunity to discuss issues that would not often be brought up during large awareness gatherings.
SSP Vodo has extended his appreciation to the leaders and elders of the 10 villages for their hospitality in welcoming the team.
SSP Vodo says with the Eastern Division largely made up of rural and maritime communities, ensuring consistent service delivery and engagement is important for community policing partnerships.
