The overall crime rate for the first six months of 2023, recorded a 13 percentage decrease, with 7,605 cases received compared to 8,774 for the same period last year, made possible through the support of our communities, crime prevention stakeholders and law enforcement partners.
The Fiji Police Force understands that there are unreported cases, which is why we are prioritizing community policing operations to encourage people to come forward and report crimes.
Offences against property which include aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, burglary, theft and robbery recorded decreases for the first 6-month period.
We want to reiterate that all concerns raised about service delivery are taken seriously and have put in place measures and strategies to curb property offences.
These include;
1 Snap check points
2 Increased visibility with foot and mobile patrols
3 Random checks
4 Clearance of towns and cities of people found loitering
5 Working with stakeholders to address the issue of young children loitering and street dwellers
6 Setting up of tents in known red spot areas in towns and cities.
7 Utilization of technology by partnering with business communities and the use of CCTV capabilities
8 Strengthening community policing operations and community outreach programs and the setting up of Crime Prevention Committees.
By bringing community policing to the forefront, we are placing greater emphasis on community partnerships for a collaborative approach towards crime prevention.
