New Digital Forensic Lab


The Fiji Police Force’s Digital Forensic Laboratory was officially opened by the Australia High Commission Deputy Head of Mission, Mr Paul Wilson yesterday.

The high tech Laboratory is located at the Criminal Investigation Department Head Quarters in Toorak and has the capability of carrying out mobile, computer and CCTV forensics.

Mr. Paul Wilson said the partnership between the Australia Government and the Fiji Police Force continues to progress.

“We have seen that through the upgrade of the Command centers, the trainings and now the new Forensic laboratory.

We are grateful that this relation continue to grow,” said Mr Wilson.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho acknowledged the Australian Government for their timely assistance stressing that cyber related crimes are on the rise as the rate of connectivity increases.

“Going forward we are excited that by enhancing the Cybercrime Unit’s capacity in investigating these cases, will significantly change public perception,” said Brigadier Qiliho.

The Commissioner of Police reminded everyone that the main purpose of such partnership was to improve the organization’s service delivery to members of the communities.

Australia Federal Police Liaison Officer Detective Superintendent Adrian Morton said the CID will build a team to operate the newly opened center.

“The officers will be trained to use these high tech equipment’s to combat Crime, tackle drug traffickers, organize crimes", said SP Morton.

He adds that this initiative will put Fiji first in the hub of digital forensic centers that are evolving around the Pacific.

“It will allow FPF to lead in this area and to promote change amongst other Pacific Island Nations.”
