Funeral of late Mrs. Waqavonovono


The late Mrs Desly Waqairatu-Waqavonovono will be remembered as a woman with an amiable smile, a fair mind and witty personality, which would put a smile to all those visiting the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) headquarters in Toorak, Suva.

The late Mrs Waqairatu-Waqavonvono joined the Fiji Police Force as a Special Constable in 1998 and was based at the Southern Division headquarters.

In 2002 she resigned from the Force and joined her husband Retired Assistant Superintendent of Police, Semi Waqavonovono, after his posting to Rotuma when her husband, was transferred to Rotuma Police Station.

On the 8th of August 2014, she had rejoined the organization as a Civilian Staff, in the post of Typist, at the CID Registry at CID headquarters, where she had served until her untimely passing on the 7 th of September 2022.

During her period of service, she had attained a Certificate in Secretarial Studies, Certificated in ICDL and other local trainings like the Customer Service Training Modules I, II, III.

The Fiji Police Delegation paid their last respects to the family of their fallen comrade at their family home in Tacirua on Tuesday led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police Itendra Nair, where Mrs Waqairatu-Waqavonovono's family, relatives, and friends had gathered to mourn her passing.

Her funeral service was attended by the Commissioner of Police, Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho and the Chief of Intelligence and Investigations, Assistant Commissioner of Police Surend Sami and the Director CID, Senior Superintendent of Police Mesake Waqa and other senior officers.

Considered as a great team player at work, a loving mother at home, a humble and dedicated Christian at her Methodist congregation at Matakilagi Methodist Church in Tacirua, Mrs Waqairatu-Waqavonovono was 45 years old at the time of her death, and would be greatly missed by many but will never forgotten by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

She is survived by her husband and 5 daughters.
