4 OFFICERS selected for LCLEC

The Australian Federal Police Commander Pacific, Commander Melinda Phelan has thanked the Fiji Police Force in supporting the Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation (PCLEC), a regional coordination mechanism that supports capability development in law enforcement priority areas.

The PCLEC concept was formulated at a Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police meeting aimed at consolidating regional, trilateral and bilateral police development through a decentralised model.

The AFP has supported the establishment of the PCLEC delivery coordination team of which Fijian Police Officers have been actively engaged in since the design stages in 2019.

During the AFP Commander’s tour in Fiji this past week, she met with the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho and thanked the Fiji Police Force for leading regional efforts through the support and delivery of PCLEC initiatives.

Commander Phelan also met with offcers who have been involved with PCLEC and commended them for their support.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ilaitia Caginavanua was a member of the PCLEC design team in 2019.

SP Caginavanua was also seconded and worked remotely with the PCLEC team from August to November 2021 after graduating from an Australian Awards Scholarship Post-Graduate Program from the Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia.

Commander Phelan also acknowledged Superintendent of Police Aseri Nakibo, ASP Amelia Rokotuivuna and ASP Helen Susie who were part of the first cohorts of Pacific Police Officers seconded to PCLEC from September 2020 to December 2021.

The three senior women officers were to be based out of the PCLEC Canberra-based office but due to the pandemic, worked remotely from the PCLEC Fiji Chapter which was opened in 2020.

The Fiji Police Force through its Fiji Chapter continues to support PCLEC programs to fellow Pacific Law Enforcement partners.

Commander Phelan also met with the four Fijian Police Officers who have been selected as the new cohort of Pacific Police Officers seconded to the PCLEC.
