Senior officer leaving for UNITAMS

A senior Fijian Police Officer with more than 30-years experience in Policing is the first to be deployed under the recently mandated United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS).

UNITAMS was established from a UN Security Council resolution adopted on the 3rd of June 2020 as a special political mission to provide support to Sudan for an initial 12-month period during its political transition to democratic rule.

The mandate was further extended from June 2020 to the 3rd June 2022.

Based out of Khartoum, ASP Seru who is from Nakorosule in Naitasiri says he appreciates the support of the Commissioner of Police in having trust in his ability to serve again in a United Nations Mission.

ASP Seru said being able to serve in a familiar territory is a blessing.

“This is my second United Nations Peacekeeping Mission and I am fortunate to be deployed to a familiar territory having served in Sudan in 2010”.

“I hope to use my 30-year experience in Policing to assist in peacebuilding in bringing about a positive change to those who have been impacted by conflict”.

ASP Seru had earlier presented his i-tatau to the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho late last month.

The Commissioner of Police congratulated ASP Seru for his UN posting adding he expected nothing but the best from a seasoned Police officer.

“ASP Seru has proven on many occasions his capabilities and his achievements speaks for themselves.

I believe that he will make a difference and make us and Fiji proud”.

Brigadier General Qiliho said the Fiji Police Force stands ready to deploy officers to serve in various United Nations Peacekeeping Mission areas, and any and all opportunities made available will be supported.

ASP Seru flew out of the country yesterday.
