Cyber Safety Program


Capacity building is an important strategic approach for the Fiji Police Force and this is achieved through continuous collaboration with our Law Enforcement counterparts especially with Cyber Safety Program.

An important note that was shared amongst other stakeholders by Fiji Police Force Cyber Crime Digital/Forensics/ and Investigation Officer Corporal Savenaca Siwatibau during the commemoration of Safer Internet Day in Suva this morning.

The Cyber Safety Program was created by the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police [PICP] with the Australian Federal Police to train and upskill officers on the current trends of cybercrime and various types of criminal activities online.

With the theme ‘’Together for a better internet’’ the Fiji Police Force called on all stakeholders to work in partnership in making the internet a safer and better place for all and especially for children and young people.

The day aims to create awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns on social networking, digital identity and cyberbullying and how to use the internet in a much better and safer way.

‘’The Fiji Police Force has invested heavily on proactive measures and we have been engaging with various stakeholders to assist efforts in promoting the better and safer utilisation of the internet.

Continuous awareness has been raised within the communities.”

“We need to work together to fully utilize opportunities available in as far as safer internet is concern”.

He also highlighted the fast changing virtual social environment that has been adapted by the organization and is urging participants to work together and create more awareness on Safer Internet.

Corporal Siwatibau said the increased awareness has led to increased confidence as members of the community are coming forward to report online issues such as scams, online threats and cyber bullying.

Calls have also been made for parents and guardians to continue monitoring their children's online activities and provide proper guidance on its use.

Representatives from the Fiji Online Safety Commission, Save the Children Fiji , Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation were also in attendance.

Meanwhile a booklet on safer internet was also launched and is designed to assist parents teach children about the safe way of using the Internet.
