NZ Police trains trainers

"He waka eke Noa". (We are all in this together) Further strengthening partnerships between the Fiji Police Force and New Zealand Police , a two day workshop is being delivered by New Zealand Police Senior Advisors from the Fiji Police Partnership Programme (FPPP) in investigative interviewing to members of the Fiji Police Academy and Criminal Investigations Department.

The workshop will focus on the interview of victims, witnesses and suspects and will aim to familiarise officers in the foundational concepts and framework of interviewing using best practice.

Opening the two day workshop was the Director Training Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe who acknowledged the continued support of the New Zealand Government and New Zealand Police through the FPPP.

SSP Vusonilawe said the outcome of the training will greatly assist with the delivery of specialized training for officers of all ranks throughout the country.

The Fiji Police will ultimately be in charge of training its own officers in interviewing with the continued and ongoing support of the NZ Police.

According to the New Zealand Police Senior Advisors, developing the mindset of an officer to understand what good evidence based interview practice looks like requires effective leadership.

This leadership will come from the trainers who are explaining and demonstrating the techniques and benefits which come from using it.

The two day training ends tomorrow.
