MSP supports Fiji Police

During the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, there are many needs arising for the Fiji Police Force, which are unbudgeted.

Medical Services Pacific (MSP) has committed support towards the Fiji Police Force COVID-19 frontline operations.

The support was directed to the Fiji Police Force COVID-19 operations to cater for frontline officers with 'hot-meals'.

This is the second phase of assistance given to the Fiji Police and a recent meeting with the Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho gave an opportunity to discuss issues of the ongoing support provided by MSP towards the mental health and well-being needs of Police officers especially during this pandemic.

Brigadier General Qiliho also expressed the institutions gratitude in the supporting role MSP plays in providing critical services to victims of Gender-Based Violence.

He added the services provided on a 24-hour basis has been vital in ensuring victims are provided vital counselling and medical services when they seek help from the Police.

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented Fiji Police Force officers with new challenges and also required to adapt to existing practices to “virus reality.”

The discussions emphasised the critical role a Police officer takes on as the first point of contact with the justice system for many survivors of SGBV and child abuse.

The need for Police officers to understand the referral pathway and the need for capacity building for the frontline staff to respond to individual cases using a survivor-centered approach.
