UNICEF Child Care Workshop


Twenty officers this week had undergone training facilitated by UNICEF in a bid to educate them to develop and improve best practices when handling children while in custody.

These officers who are investigators, prosecutors, crime officers, and crime sergeants always at the forefront when dealing with the issue that concerns children at the station level.

The Chief of Intelligence, Investigations and Prosecution Biu Matavou while officiated at the closing of the event highlighted the importance of valuing children’s rights following Fiji’s ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Children in 1993.

“Children are the face of tomorrow, they are our future and our investment in them will bear good and responsible Fijians in whatever career path or field they choose in life.

While they engage in academic and recreational activities throughout the year, their spiritual growth must remain a priority as well”. 

He is reminding participants that they also have a big role to play in preventing child abuse and neglect UNICEF representative Salote Kaimacuata is assuring the organization that they will continue supporting the organization in terms of training for the benefit of the future generation of this country.
