Ratu Sukuna Bowl Launching

The 2020 Ratu Sukuna Bowl Challenge was launched in style as the Republic of Fiji Military Forces showed they meant business in retaining the prestigious tanoa for the second year running.

In keeping with the tradition of laying down the challenge between the RFMF and the Fiji Police Force, the RFMF Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto said they were confident of walking away with the Ratu Sukuna Tanoa when the dust settled on the eve of the 11thof December 2020.

The Commander said this year’s tournament would be dedicated to assisting children and families impacted by COVID-19 as reflected through the theme "Rise Fiji Rise" "The theme reflects the spirit of the nation as we navigate through the challenges brought about by the pandemic and this year's tournament will be a charity event where all the money and pledges of assistance will go towards assisting as many children as we can who are struggling because of the impacts of COVID-19".

"As we raise the Sukuna Bowl we will also raise the hopes of some young Fijian to keep pursuing their dreams in school".

Accepting the challenge on behalf of the Fiji Police Force was the Acting Deputy Commissioner Itendra Nair who acknowledged that it would not be easy to take the Ratu Sukuna Tanoa back to its rightful home in Nasova.

The Acting Deputy Commissioner said both institutions were playing for a purpose and it is only fitting to dedicate the tournament to Fiji’s future generation.

“We are also both playing for a worthy cause and purpose and for the Fiji Police Force we are focused on advocating the war on drugs for the sake of our children”.

“We will always come in as the underdogs to our big brothers from the RFMF but we’ll give it our best shot”.

The main Ratu Sukuna Bowl Challenge will take place on the 11thof December at the ANZ Stadium.

Meanwhile tomorrow the Ratu Sukuna Cricket Competition will be held atAlbert Park at 9am.
