"You need to put into practice what you’ve learned to mediate and win over the support of those in need of help in as far as policing is concerned is vital.”
These were the sentiments echoed by the Chief of Intelligence, Investigations and Prosecution ACP Biu Matavou while officiating the closing of the Pacific Center for Peacebuilding’s Restorative Justice Workshop at the Police Special Response Unit in Nasinu.
Twenty- five officers were awarded certificates for completing the three-day Restorative Justice workshop.
ACP Matavou said the training was an eye-opener for officers as it helped broaden their knowledge in understanding issues pertaining to Restorative Justice and how it could apply to their line of work.
He also reminded officers that the principles of restorative justice may be useful in some situations considering the challenging COVID 19 pandemic that we are currently experiencing.
Meanwhile Director for Pacific Centre for Peacebuilding Florence Swami acknowledged the organization for recognizing the importance of restorative justice can be a major advantage to building peaceful communities in the country by enhancing the skills of officers to engage with communities, building trust while at the same time maintaining law and order.
