Gender Base Violence Workshop
Thirty six senior officers from the Southern, Central, National Command Center and Police Special Response Unit are undergoing a week long training facilitated by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre.
The training is to support the Fiji Police Force to develop best practice in responding to violence against women, girls and children in order to improve services and processes.
The Acting Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said responding to reports of gender based violence requires patience and understanding and not the hard handed approach that often leave victims feeling more victimized.
Centre Coordinator Shamima Ali said police is an important stakeholder and have a critical role in ensuring laws are enforced and survivors are treated with the dignity, respect and care they deserve.
“In the work to eliminate violence against women, one of the ongoing challenges is police response to gender-based violence reports,” Ms Ali said.
The training will also include relevant legislations, awareness on the National Service Delivery Protocol and exploring prevention strategies.
The training program is supported by DFAT through FWCC.
