REGIONAL INVESTIGATION TRAINING PACKAGE
In a bid to ensure COVID-19 does not hinder efforts of enhancing security measures in the Pacific region, a virtual meeting was held with members of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation’s (PCLEC) Reference Group to discuss the formulation of a regional training package focusing on Investigations.
The meeting was Chaired by Team Leader and Fiji Police’s Director International Relations Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ulaiasi Ravula and joining in from Canberra were Sergeant James Armstrong from the Australian Federal Police’s Internal Command Unit and Mr Bennet Foster as well as senior Criminal Investigations Department Officers and Heads of the Fiji Police Academy CID School.
The purpose of the meeting was to unpack Capacity Development Initiatives for an Investigation Training package specially formulated for the Pacific Region.
Senior CID and Academy Staff present were from Human Trafficking, School of Investigations, Cybercrime and Sexual Offences who shared course objectives and best practices currently in use by the Fiji Police Force to the two AFP representatives.
SSP Ravula said it was vital to continue the momentum of enhancing regional Policing capabilities specifically through training.
“COVID-19 should not impact our networking efforts because policing operations will continue amidst health pandemics or natural disasters”.
SSP Ravula said with Fiji’s position as the regional hub, the Fiji Police Force will play the leading supporting role in the sharing of information and resources to assist fellow Pacific law enforcement agencies.
