Acting Commissioner meets Salvation Army

The Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu continued his visitations of religious groups this past week and met with the Salvation Army's Divisional Commander Fiji Territory Captain Andrew Moffatt in Suva.

The Acting Commissioner met with both Capt. Moffatt and Salvation Army Board member Ajay Bhai Amrit where he was briefed about the ongoing social and community work conducted by their various Ministries targeting different age groups.

Capt. Moffatt said they looked forward to working with the Fiji Police Force as they had a number of programs already underway that would assist the institutional intent of reducing crime.

"We're both on the good side with a common goal of doing good and it's only right that we work together".

"We have Ministries that work with women, children, youth and we are a deeply rooted community organization where our assistance goes beyond just our own members but to anyone in need and by working together we can make a positive impact".

He also highlighted that talks were underway for the setting up of a substance abuse rehabilitation center.

Mr Amrit said they had always been willing to work with Police and hope the meeting will help open doors of cooperation.

"We are grateful for the Acting Commissioner's visit because it's all about winning hearts and the support of members of the community if we are to help each other in keeping our communities safe".

"We are of the view that if you win the hearts and minds of one religious body you're not gaining 5000 of its members but you're gaining 5000 Police officers who will help the Fiji Police Force to fight crime".

The Acting Commissioner acknowledged their willigness to work together and assured them of the Fiji Police's support.

He was accompanied by the Director Operations SSP Sakeo Ganivatu and the Deputy Director Operations SP Epeli Sicinilawa.
