The important message that was delivered by the Director of Community Policing Senior Superintendent of Police Bereta Naisua when officiated at the Muanikau Youth Empowerment Sports Day at the Pacific Regional Seminary ground in Nasese.
SSP Naisua has encouraged youth that it is time to know each other, support, work hand in hand, and talk about issues that will bring good to themselves, their family, and a community as a whole.
“We believed that in promoting mutual respect and tolerance, sports teach important social and interpersonal skills.
Using sports to help people especially youth can be proved to be an effective tool falling into a cycle of anti-social behavior, violent crime, and drug use.”
She also mentioned that through sports it will provide the impetus to promote sports activities as an educational integrating tool and importantly –a tool to promote health and community togetherness.
The long day Youth Volleyball Tournament allows for respective government agencies such as the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Health, Human Rights and Discrimination Commission, and the Police Sexual Offense Unit, Cyber Crime, and Drug Unit to create awareness to the youth on various topics related to their field of work.
Twenty volleyball teams from within the Muanikau Police Post area of operation were part of the event including the entertainment from the Police Band.
