30-year-old unemployed man charged for scam

The Fiji Police Force Cybercrime Unit has arrested and charged a 30-year-old unemployed man of Labasa for the offence of Obtaining Financial Advantage.

In February last year, it is alleged that he had obtained $380.00 through online internet banking and on the same day he withdrew the money from a Supermarket in Labasa through MPOS purchase.

Police investigation revealed that the complainant had sent $380.00 from her Bank Account to the accused's bank account.

The complainant was going through their School teacher’s viber group forum when she discovered that their Principal’s Viber number has been hacked and has been used to ask for money.

The matter was reported at Labasa Police Station

The 30-year-old man is now in Police custody and will appear at Labasa Magistrate Court later today.
