A 3-year old child drowned in the river opposite the Wakanisila Settlement.


A 3-year old child is the country’s latest drowning victim.

A report was received at the Nasinu Police Station yesterday morning, after the child had gone missing from his home in the Naibulivatu Settlement in Laqere, whereby search efforts were initiated.

The victim’s body was later discovered floating in the river opposite the Wakanisila Settlement.

The circumstances leading up to the unfortunate incident are under investigation.

The national drowning toll currently stands at 27 compared to 45 for the same period last year.
