regional Gender in Policing Training


The Australian Federal Police supported regional Gender in Policing Training got underway at the Sheraton Resort in Denarau, Nadi this morning (Monday 22nd September 2025).

Co-opening the training were Fiji’s Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu and Australian Federal Police’s Commander Pacific Acting Assistant Commissioner Phillipa Connell, both echoing sentiments of changing the conversation about gender in policing, through the eyes of women officers serving the region.

A/ACP Connell emphasized it was a learning process, with AFP still learning, adapting and implementing meaningful changes, in assisting women overcome gender barriers faced in law enforcement.

Commissioner Tudravu assured the delegates from Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Palau, Samoa, Tonga, Nauru, Tahiti, Northern Marianas, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Tokelau, Guam, New Zealand and Fiji, of the Chief’s support through the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police, in advancing the empowerment of women in law enforcement.

The training facilitated by the Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation (PCLEC), aims to support regional police in promoting leadership and improving workplace environments for women in policing.

Delegates were encouraged to discuss openly, as their contribution was vital in assisting Pacific Police Chiefs with their decision making towards the advancement of women in policing.
