The Commissioner of the Online Safety Commission Fiji, Mr Filipe Batiwale paid a courtesy call on the Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu where they discussed avenues of enhancing collaboration between the two organisations noting the increase in online activities and cyber related offences.
Mr Batiwale briefed Commissioner Tudravu on the various ways the two organisations could support each other to avoid the duplication of roles, adding the Commission looked forward to more dialogue with the Criminal Investigations Department's Cybercrime team in creating safer digital environments by identifying practical approaches towards complaints received.
Mr Batiwale said the Commission is also eager to roll out training for frontline officers as well as at the Basic Recruitment training level.
The Commissioner of Police echoed Mr Batiwale’s sentiments, adding there was a need to relook at ways to fully operationalise mechanisms within the existing Memorandum of Understanding.
Commissioner Tudravu has agreed for officers in the specialised field of cybercrime investigations to meet with the Online Safety Commissioner and his team, where they can share experiences and best practices for the sake of addressing challenges in the online space.
The Online Safety Commission is dedicated to improving online safety standards and fostering an environment where technology can be used responsibly and safely.
