More on drug seizures and stolen items


A woman was arrested during a raid at the Mead Road housing complex yesterday following the discovery of alleged illicit substances.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said the raid conducted by a joint team consisting of officers from the Southern Division’s Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Department, K9 and Crime Intel led to the discovery of several large zip lock bags of dried leaves and more than 100 branches all believed to be marijuana.

Also seized were items believed to be stolen and smoking apparatus.

ACP Driu said officers in the Eastern Division conducted a raid in Draubuta, Tailevu resulting in the arrest of a 36-year old man, following the discovery of dried branches and leaves believed to be marijuana.

 A further search conducted led to the discovery of plants believed to be marijuana on his farm.

ACP Driu said a raid conducted at Nanuku Settlement in Vatuwaqa resulted in the discovery of a ziplock plastic containing white crystals believed to be methamphetamine, and a bag containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

Also seized were electronic gadgets believed to have been stolen.

Four men were arrested during the raid.

Along Rodwell Road, a 28-year old man was arrested for an alleged case of unlawful possession of illicit drugs following the discovery of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

ACP Driu said the Fiji Police Force is committed to its role in reducing the supply of illicit drugs, by disrupting the illicit network through targeted raids, while at the same time creating awareness on its hamrful impacts through Community Policing.
