Boy thrown out of moving vehicle

Police are investigating the death of a 12-year-old student of Sabeto, Nadi, who died after being thrown out from a moving vehicle yesterday.

It is alleged that he was amongst other youths traveling along Natadola and seated at the back tray of the carrier.

They drove through pot holes, which had caused the student to be thrown out from the moving vehicle and landed on the tarseal road. He was rushed to Sigatoka Hosp and later passed away.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations(ACPO) Livai Driu said the incident was indeed sad.

"Despite our calls for safety on the roads during the festive season and Police presence on the roads, incidents as such happen because drivers aren't responsible enough," said ACP Driu.

He said Police cannot be everywhere on the roads to continuously remind drivers of their safety.

The body is at Sigatoka Hospital awaiting Post Mortem.
