More drugs seized

Drug related arrests were made throughout the weekend for unlawful possession and unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said a 31-year-old man was arrested in Caubati following the discovery of clear plastics containing white crystals believed to be methamphetamine and dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

ACP Driu said the suspect is also being investigated for bribery, as he allegedly offered money to a police officer during the time of arrest. He adds as investigation continues, police officers continue to be reminded of their role in disrupting and dismantling drug supply and will not condone such attempts to derail efforts.

ACP Driu reassures members of the public that if reports are received of police involvement, necessary disciplinary measures will be taken of both internal and criminal proceedings.

Other arrests for white substances believed to be methamphetamine were made in Samabula and Sigatoka resulting in the arrest of four men. The Assistant Commissioner for Operations said arrests made for marijuana were in Korovou, Tailevu, Lautoka and Sigatoka, with a case of unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs believed to be marijuana recorded in Karoko where more than 100 plants were seized.

Members of the public are requested to continue sharing information of suspected drug related activities through Crimestoppers on 919 or 917.
