Man arrested for burglary

K9 officers were able to quickly track and arrest a man for a case of alleged burglary in Taveuni last night.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said a call was received at the Taveuni Police Station of a break-in at an estate, whereby a team consisting of K9 officers were deployed.

Upon arriving at the scene, the K9 team tracked the suspect and were able to make an arrest and recoveries of alleged stolen items.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

ACP Driu said leading up to the festive season, K9 capabilities will assist divisional operations through the conduct of mobile and foot patrols.

The head of the Fiji Police operations arm is also calling on property owners to take necessary security measures.

"Some cases have shown no signs of forced entry, suggesting unlocked entries. At times we rush and overlook security matters concerning our homes and this leads to cases of burglaries.”

“The Fiji Police Force requests everyone to be security conscious as this is the best way to counter criminal and opportunistic behaviour.”
