International Leadership training closing

Members of the executive command of the Fiji Police Force have completed the International Leadership training facilitated by the UK College of Policing.

The completion of the executive leadership training also marked the end of the eight week training package provided to 92 police officers at the emerging junior, middle managers and executive levels.

The training opportunity is a result of discussions held in June this year, where the UK Government had pledged to bring the International Leadership training previously offered in London to Fiji.

Closing the three-day training was the Acting Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci, who is holding the post as the Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew is in Tonga attending the 51st Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Annual Conference.

Acting Commissioner Raikaci said, “The change has to start with the individual and accept scrutiny of our roles as leaders.

We play key roles as leaders and I hope this training has been an eye opener to help us lead the organisation through the Reset as everything falls back on leadership."

Course facilitator from the UK College of Police Sarah Jackson said their eight week stay in Fiji has been a memorable one, adding that it was an honour to share their knowledge and expertise to assist the FPF convert challenges of leadership into opportunities at various leadership levels.

Head of the UK Integrated Security Fund (UKISF) Pacific Programme Mr Josh Kemp described the partnership between the Fiji Police Force and the UK Police as an enduring one based on respect.

“Over the last two months, the UK college has been working with FPF and it has been brilliant to have met with every cohort and the quality of officers has been superb.”

“The FPF and UK Police share the same approach to policing founded on the code of ethics as a guiding light of courage, demonstrating respect, empathy and commitment to public service and to never forget that they are privileged to hold the positions they have for the benefit of the public.” Mr.

Kemp also assured the FPF executive leaders of the British Government’s commitment in expanding the International Leadership Training to the Divisional level in the North and Western Divisions.
