Closing of the International Leadership Training

Fiji Police officers holding middle managerial posts have completed a three week training specifically focused on enhancing their leadership capabilities.

The training delivered by the College of Policing and supported by UK in Fiji is part of a training package targeting leadership capabilities for all ranks.

Closing the International Leadership Training for middle managers was the Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew who said “I feel that the most important element of any training is acceptance and the willingness to change.

This is where the important virtue of humility comes into play.” The Acting Commissioner made a request of the officers, calling on them to lead by example through their actions. “As a leader you must act as a leader.

Your leadership qualities is best reflected through your own examples. The examples you show as a leader through your work and personal lives. Examples to your families, society and nation.”

“We are mostly judged on our actions, and if you require officers to follow your command and leadership, you must show examples of what you are wanting. This applies to whether you are on or off duty.”

Following the middle managers training, the UK College of Policing will be delivering the final in the series of training with the executive command.

Mr Josh Kemp, Head of UKISF Pacific Programme said, “This is not UK Police coming with all the answers. This is UK Police coming to share the challenges that we have, the approach we take, and to understand how they might apply here in Fiji.

It’s an incredible asset for the Fiji Police to invest in its leadership capacity.’’ The Fiji Police Force extends its appreciation to the British Government for supporting the capacity and capability training for its officers.
