More drugs seized


Several arrests were made for drug related offences over the weekend, with the Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reaffirming the Fiji Police Force's commitment in destabilising the illicit trade.

“Our priority is to reduce harm by reducing supply and the arrests made is a reflection of our unwavering commitment towards curbing the illicit drug trade.

The arrests also reflect the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the community with the sharing of information”.

In the Central Division, several arrests were made in the capital city along Nina Street, Scott Street and at the market, following the discovery of dried leaves believed to be marijuana and white substances believed to be methamphetamine.

Arrested were four men aged 37, 39, 20 and 18 years. In the Southern Division, ACP Driu said arrests were made in the Valelevu area. A 51-year-old was allegedly found with branches and several sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

At the Valelevu bus stop along the Kings Road, two men residing in Nadonumai were arrested following the discovery of white crystals believed to be methamphetamine and white powder believed to be cocaine. In Tacirua, a 37-year-old man was taken into custody following the seizure of more than 200 sachets of dried leaves, several dried branches and a plastic containing loose dried leaves all believed to be marijuana.

In Vatuwaqa, a 19-year-old was arrested along Daya Street after he was found with a clear plastic container containing white substances believed to be methamphetamine and syringes.

ACP Driu said two men were arrested in Korovou, Tailevu after they were allegedly found with several sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

In the Western Division, arrests were recorded in Rakiraki, Ba, Nadi and Lautoka. In the Northern Division arrests were made at the Labasa Market, whereby three men were found with dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations said the seizures and arrests indicate the ongoing efforts of disrupting, destroying and destabilising the illicit trade.

“The arrests show the determination and resolve of our resilient Fijian community to hold those involved in the illicit drug trade accountable for their actions. Through the support of our enforcement partners, our focus remains on disrupting the supply chain, that have to date resulted in significant detections and arrests”.
