Join task force community engagement in the Solomon island

Efforts of fostering a sense of shared responsibility for peace and security between law enforcement and communities continue in earnest by the Solomon International Assistance Force (SIAF).

The Joint Task Force consisting of Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), Fiji Police Force, Australian Federal Police and Australian Defence Force have been working alongside the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force RSIPF to promote community engagement with law enforcement, and cultivate the shared understanding and responsibility for peace and security.

The latest campaign was conducted with the Plywood Community.

Community leader Mr. Eddie Hoasihata said there was overwhelming support for the initiative, which involved sports and fun activities for more than 300 community members.

“This is the first program of its kind in the community, and we thank the Australian Police, Fijian Army, and Police & Australian Defense Force for organizing the program. We hope for more programs like this in the future and request support in the form of sports equipment to engage young people and steer them away from criminal activities.”

Engaging youths and community members through sports is a popular community policing tool, as it engages people from all walks of life, where law enforcement is able to promote the importance of community partnership.

The purpose of community engagement is to emphasize that maintaining law and order is everyone’s responsibility, shared by all, for the maintenance of peace and security.

20 officers from the Police Mobile Force unit’s tactical division make up the 100-man Fiji contingent with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces under the Cori Mada Task Force 3.

The deployment underscores Fiji’s commitment to regional cooperation and the maintenance of peace and security in the Pacific.
